“There comes a point where we need to stop just pulling people out of the river. We need to go upstream and find out why they’re falling in.” ~ Desmond Tutu
Upstream Parenting is a peer-run, mutually-supportive group for parents of kids with brain-based differences (these include but are not limited to: '2e', Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Sensory Processing differences, Anxiety, Depression, Trauma).
In our shared-learning groups, we focus on wellbeing, learning and advocacy. We hope to amplify neurodivergent voices in our community and disseminate knowledge of practices which affirm and celebrate differences across all intersectional experiences. We aim to support families in identifying their strengths and rooting themselves in a healthy, good-fit life.
(We currently intermittently have interpretation available for Spanish, but are working to integrate more language support as we are able).
Our parent group is a hybrid meeting: in-person at the BASE, and on Zoom.
Current weekly groups are currently held weekly on Wednesdays at 9:30-10:30am. In November '24 we will add an evening group. Stay tuned for upates.
The first week of each month is dedicated to welcoming new folx in and taking the hour to learn about the group culture, shared agreements, and one another.
The BASE at Franklin is a safe place for all brains. We understand differences as differences. We strive to utilize collaboration and compassion to navigate communication differences without stigmatizing or pathologizing. We provide a place for community to connect around diverse interests.
